TMJ Symptoms and Side Effects

TMD, temporomandibular joint disorder, is often referred to as TMJ pain. Pain can happen with opening and closing the mouth. Your jaw may occasionally lock. Most TMJ sufferers have clicking and popping sounds. Pain can also radiate and be described as headaches, ear pain, and pain in the neck, shoulders and upper back also happen as a result of teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and jaw misalignment. Those who complain of TMJ symptoms often feel them the most during times of stress when jaw clenching tends to happen most.

MULTIPLE TOOTH EXTRACTIONS: ROVI SMILE CENTER, CORAL SPRINGS, FL

When more than one tooth has to be extracted at once, due to infection or in preparation for dentures or DENTAL IMPLANTS, care, attention, and taking it easy are all in order. At Rovi Smile Center in Coral Springs, FL, Dr. Rovirosa and his dental team want to do everything possible to minimize your discomfort. That’s why we provide information to help you heal. We’re also here if you have any questions or concerns.

Pain and Swelling

Pain at the extraction site as well as swelling are both normal. These generally subside within a few days. Pain medication will help ease this and your dentist might also recommend ice packs or cold compresses.

Diet and Oral Hygiene after Multiple Tooth Extractions

A soft food diet is advisable for at least a few days, until you feel a bit better. Oral hygiene is important, too, but a modified routine might be in order to protect the extraction site. Avoid vigorous swishing or rinsing and avoid the use of straws as you could dislodge blood clots, that are your body’s natural defense against bleeding at the extraction site.

When more than one tooth is removed, it’s generally in preparation for other dental surgery so we’ll book your next appointment with you in order to assess healing and discuss next steps.
